Single-Center — What It Means in Clinical Trials

Plain English Definition

A single-center trial takes place at just one hospital or clinic. These studies are often smaller and may be early-phase trials testing a new treatment for the first time. You would need to travel to that specific location for all study visits.

Why It Matters

If a trial is single-center, you need to be able to travel to that one location regularly. Consider the distance and how often you will need to visit before deciding to enroll.

Example

A listing might say: "Single-center study conducted at Memorial Hospital, New York." All participants must attend this one site.
